Starfield Soars to 15 Million Players: Major Update and New Expansion Unveiled
The gaming landscape has seen a significant milestone with the monumental success of Bethesda’s new title. Starfield, which was launched in September 2023, has quickly attracted a vast player base.
Since its release, Starfield has amassed a remarkable 15 million players, setting a record as the most significant launch in Bethesda Game Studios' history. On its launch day alone, the game reached six million players, surpassing iconic titles like The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and Fallout 4. A key contributor to this achievement was the game's availability on Game Pass from day one.
In a statement on their website, Bethesda expressed their excitement about the number of players embarking on this adventure and emphasized their commitment to enhancing the gaming experience based on feedback from the community. To this effect, a new update has been released that introduces several important features and improvements.
The update brings a variety of changes, including:
- Creations by Verified Creators can now offer achievements.
- Two new free additions: a new land vehicle and a quest.
- Quality-of-life enhancements, like an uncapped framerate option for Xbox Series X.
It is worth noting that achievements will not unlock retroactively for existing game saves, even if those saves contain the newly created content.
Update 1.14.74 introduces the Deimog, a new land vehicle presented as a token of appreciation for reaching the impressive 15 million player milestone. Additionally, a new quest titled The Perfect Recipe has been released, offered to players free of charge in a nod to the Thanksgiving season.
At the end of September, Bethesda launched the first expansion for Starfield, named Shattered Space. Marketed as a major comeback for the studio, it has not performed well, receiving a 'mostly negative' user review rating on Steam. Bethesda development lead expressed that there was consideration on whether delaying certain features for the expansion might have resulted in a better reception.
