Rise of the Ronin Story Vignette Highlights Factions and Key Characters
In the latest trailer from Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja for Rise of the Ronin, players are introduced to a range of characters and groups they'll meet in their adventures. The game features the Pro-Shogunate forces, known as Sabaku, who are staunch defenders of the status quo; the rebellious Anti-Shogunate group, called Tobaku, determined to eliminate foreign influence; and the Western contingent, Obei, spearheaded by US Navy Commodore Matthew Perry, who are in pursuit of establishing trade relations.
Each character in the game has clear objectives, but their motivations and strategies to achieve these goals set them apart. For instance, characters like Ernest Satow and Taka Murayama may not be fighters in the traditional sense, yet their involvement in the story is significant. Satow is certain of his influential role in the unfolding events, whereas Murayama leverages his Shogunate connections. Historical personalities such as Perry, Genzui Kusaka, Sakamoto Ryoma, and Kogoro Katsura also enrich the narrative with their presence.
The development of relationships, or Bonds, with these characters influences the journey significantly. Based on the strength of these Bonds, characters can join players on missions, offering their assistance. It's even possible to take control of these allies during some of these quests. The choices made by the player in nurturing these relationships can lead to alterations in the storyline, culminating in varied endings.
