BioWare Initiates Staff Reduction to Enhance Agility and Focus
BioWare has confirmed it will be making approximately 50 of its employees redundant, which constitutes about 20% of its overall workforce. This decision comes as part of a shift towards becoming a leaner and more focused games development studio. The move is intended to quickly adapt to upcoming projects and to remain competitive in the fast-evolving gaming industry, says BioWare's general manager, Gary McKay.
The restructuring, he adds, is unavoidable given the need for reassessing their development approach. He assured that impacted employees would receive support and professional resources for transition. Alongside this announcement, McKay reiterated the studio's ongoing commitment to the development of games like Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and the next Mass Effect.
This development comes on the heels of parent company EA planning to lay off approximately six percent of its workforce as part of its own restructuring.
