Google, Twitter, and Meta Platforms Face Stricter EU Online Content Rules

Google, Twitter, and Meta Platforms Face Stricter EU Online Content Rules on Liontamer Top Blog

The European Union (EU) has implemented stricter online content regulations for tech giants such as Alphabet's Google, Facebook parent Meta Platforms, and Twitter

This is due to the monthly user numbers that each company has published, which exceeded the EU threshold. The newly introduced rules, referred to as the Digital Services Act (DSA), aim to safeguard the privacy and digital security of users.

The DSA requires companies with more than 45 million users to implement risk management and external and independent auditing. Additionally, they are required to share data with authorities and researchers and to adopt a code of conduct.

Other rules that are in place under the DSA include the need to make sure that content is accurate and does not contain any illegal material. It also requires platforms to cooperate with law enforcement and to remove illegal content. Furthermore, the DSA also stipulates that companies must ensure that users are able to report illegal content and receive timely responses.

The DSA has been met with mixed reactions from tech companies. While some companies are supportive of the new regulations, others are concerned about the impact it will have on their businesses. For instance, Twitter has expressed concern over the potential for increased censorship.

The DSA is an important step forward for protecting users’ data and online safety. Additionally, it provides a mechanism for the EU to hold tech companies accountable for their conduct. The rules that are in place under the DSA will help to create a more secure online environment for users. We invite you to leave a comment and share your opinion on the Digital Services Act.
